Seniesa Estrada vs Anahi Torres at StubHub and More Female Updates

Seniesa Estrada Fights Torres at StubHub and More Female Updates

By David A. Avila

Four top female prizefighters led by Seniesa “Superbad” Estrada perform in the next two weeks in the Southwest region.

East L.A.‘s Estrada (10-0) meets Mexico’s Anahi Torres (16-16-1) at the StubHub Center in Carson on Saturday Sept. 9. The female light flyweight contest will not be televised but is a major fight of interest in the female fight world.

Super slick Estrada has slipped into another gear this past year and looks ready for world championship opposition. Her opponent Torres has faced numerous world champions and is quite capable of upsetting anyone in the world.

Among those Torres has tripped up are Jasseth Noriega, Nancy Franco and Maria Salinas along the way. She fought now retired former champion Sindy Amador of Riverside to a draw back in 2014.

Estrada, 25, has been streaking past her opponents this year with her overwhelming speed. First, a knockout victory against an over-matched Rachel Sazoff who had lasted four rounds against former Olympian Marlen Esparza when they met.

This past July, the East L.A. light flyweight speedster met another Mexican contender in Aracely Palacios and though she proved resilient, she could not match Estrada’s speedy shots.

“She was too fast,” said Palacios after the fight.

The light flyweight match is set for eight rounds and could be the match that lights the fire to the rest of the light flyweight division. Estrada seems ready for anyone in her weight class.

“We ready,” she said on Instagram after the weigh-ins.

Selina

Selina “Aztec Queen” Barrios (1-0, 1 KO) makes her way back to the ring as she battles Jasmine Clarkson (4-9) Today at the San Antonio Event Center in San Antonio, Texas.  The four-round bout, set at 140 pounds, will be Barrios’ second fight of 2017.  In her last bout, Barrios scored a first round knockout against the battle tested Tammy Franksa veteran of over twenty-five fights.

“I’m ready to give my hometown fans a great show this Saturday.” said Selina Barrios, “I know Clarkson has been in the ring with some good fighters, most recently Katie Taylor, who everyone is saying is the next great female fighter.  Taylor was able to stop Clarkson for the first time in her career, so my goal is to do the same, but in more spectacular fashion.  This will be my second time fighting in San Antonio and I want to make it a memorable one.  I have a lot of family and friends coming out to support me and I promise to bring an exciting fight to those in attendance.”

Mikaela

Former Olympian Mikaela Mayer will be fighting on the Friday Sept.22 Top Rank fight card in Tucson, Arizona. It will be televised by ESPN.

This is Mayer’s second pro fight. On her pro debut last month in Los Angeles, the lightweight boxer with tremendous speed annihilated Widnelly Figueora in 75 seconds with a withering attack. A left hook to the body left Figueroa defenseless on the floor.

Mayer (1-0) will be meeting Allison “Boom, Boom” Martinez (1-2) of Texas in a four round bout set in the lightweight division at the Tucson Convention Center. Martinez’s only win came by technical knockout. Her losses were to fighters with good records.

Kaliesha

Kaliesha West, a two division former world champion, returns to the boxing ring after a self-imposed exile for three years.

West, 29, who lives in Moreno Valley, Calif. has been waiting for her contract to end with her former promoter. It has expired. As a bantamweight and super bantamweight world champion West conquered foes around the world including Denmark, Peru and Mexico.

Now West (16-2-3) is fighting within driving distance of her home on Saturday Sept. 23, when she meets Kirstie Simmons (8-2) in a six round fight set at the super featherweight division at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

“I decided to take this fight earlier than planned,” said West. “She is a tough southpaw.”
