Germany is Rocking Again and Female Fight News

Female Fight News June 11, 2018 Germany Rocking Again

By David A. Avila

Germany is rocking this week. Just like old times.

A decade ago if you wanted to find a top tier female prize fight, you looked to Germany. Now the rest of the world has caught up but the country still has a few nuggets in the closet.

Yokasta Valle (13-1) of Costa Rica has accepted a challenge from Germany’s Tina Rupprecht (7-0) on Saturday June 16, to fight for the vacant WBC minimum weight world title at Munich, Germany.

Valle, a former minimum weight champion, recently was scheduled to fight in Tijuana, Mexico against ultra-tough Kenia Enriquez. But for reasons unexplained, the promoters of that event failed to come through. It would have been the top fight of the year so far.

Now the Costa Rican faces a speedster in Rupprecht who once fought outside of Germany. It’s always a challenge to fight someone in their home country.

Valle knows this routine.

Last year she willingly accepted to fight Japan’s mighty Naoko Fujioka the five-division world champion in her Tokyo stomping grounds. It was a spectacular clash of two fearless fighters.

“I just want to fight the best,” said Valle, 25. “I’m not afraid to fight anyone anywhere.”

So far, she’s proven more than capable of matching blows with anyone in the world in the minimum weight and light flyweight division.

Rupprecht, 25, once fought outside of Germany when she met Yana Denisova in Tambov, Russia. She defeated Denisova and the Russian girl has yet to get a win since losing to Rupprecht in May 2016.

It’s speed versus speed but usually that’ what you get in the minimum weight division. Rarely do you get power in this 105-pound weight limit. Rupprecht has three knockouts on her resume and Valle has six. It should be worth watching.

Layla

While Layla McCarter defends the GBU and WIBF welterweight titles against Ruth Chisale of Malawi, in Karlsruhe, a number of other female fights are tabbed to take place on the same fight card. A light flyweight title fight between Sarah Bormann and Fatuma Yazidu for the GBU and WIBF titles should be a good one.

But all eyes will be on McCarter, 39, who is gunning for Norway’s Cecilia Braekhus should she pass by the unknown youngster 21-year-old Chisale. The top spot on the pound for pound list is the ultimate prize or is it. More likely a six figure contract has more appeal than a symbolic title by media. Only a match with Braekhus or Katie Taylor can provide those numbers.

California

Light flyweights were on display this past week in Los Angeles. Former light flyweight champ Louis Hawton returned to the win column with a knockout win over Mexico’s Elvia Trevino at Hollywood.

Australia’s Hawton has an engaging style and was too strong for Trejo at the minimum weight of 105 pounds. When Hawton moves up she will get even stronger. She’s now training in Los Angeles and suddenly the town has become a haven for light flyweights.

Speaking of light flyweights, this past Saturday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, light flyweight Lina Lincona made her pro debut and won by stoppage. She’s a member of the fighting Lincona family. Boxing runs in their veins.

This coming Saturday bantamweight comet Adelaida Ruiz brings her heavy hands to the City of Industry where she meets Karla Valenzuela in a six round co-main event.

Ruiz has shown remarkable punching power and looks to connect for a third consecutive knockout win. Valenzuela however is a veteran fighter who has met the best in the ring. It should be interesting.
