Autumn has officially arrived and all Melissa St. Vil wants before this upcoming Christmas is a super featherweight world title.

“My goal is to get my rematch with Eva,” said St.Vil, of WBC super featherweight titlist Eva Wahlstrom. “I’m still number one for the WBC.”

St. Vil fought in her hometown Brooklyn, New York. It was the first time in her career that she fought where she lives. In the past, though she has lived in Brooklyn for more than four years, she’s fought all over the world including China and New Zealand. But never performed in Brooklyn.

“It was amazing fighting at home,” said St. Vil, 35, who recently signed a contract with DiBella Entertainment. “It’s something that I always wanted to do.”

On Saturday Sept. 29, at Kings Theater, St. Vil met defeated Mayra Hernandez who had never lost as a pro. After eight rounds the Brooklyn-based fighter won by unanimous decision.

“The fight with the girl (Hernandez) was tough,” St. Vil said. “I listened to the team and just out-boxed her using my jab.”

St. Vil has the WBC Silver title but she wants the main WBC super featherweight world title and this win helps her maintain her status as number one contender.

Shields vs. Hammer postponed

The expected mega fight between Claressa Shields and Christina Hammer for the unified middleweight world championship on Nov. 17, in Atlantic City has been postponed due to an undisclosed injury or illness to Hammer.

No word on another date but according to Hammer she was advised by her physician to not return to the sport until next year 2019.

“She can’t box until March the doctor says,” said Shields on her Twitter account.

We will report more on this once we obtain an official statement from Salita Promotions.

Chicago

Another top American female prizefighter Jessica McCaskill faces WBC super lightweight world titlist Erica Farias on Saturday Oct. 6, at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Chicago is hometown for McCaskill.

Farias hails out of Argentina and for years has been among the top pound –for-pound fighters in the world. She’s also a former lightweight world champion and is known for her strength and power. Those are also McCaskill’s strengths too.

McCaskill will be facing yet another world champion and she likes it.

“I think females get ridiculed when they take easy fights,” said McCaskill, 34, whose last fight was against WBA lightweight world titlist Katie Taylor in Ireland. “This is nothing new for us.”

When McCaskill nearly decked Taylor last year, she put the rest of the world on notice that she can bang.

The McCaskill-Farias world title fight will be streamed live in DAZN. Look for more on this story later this week on this web site.

Tijuana

WBC interim light flyweight world titlist Kenia Enriquez returns to the boxing ring after signing with Zanfer Promotions.

The Tijuana-based boxer-puncher faces Venezuela’s knockout artist Norleidys Graterol who has seven fights and seven knockouts on Saturday Oct. 6, at Gasmart Stadium in Tijuana, Mexico.

All of Graterol’s fights have previously taken place in Venezuela. This time she fights out of her country and faces Enriquez in her stomping grounds.

Enriquez, 24, does not have the same knockout percentage as 19-year-old Graterol but packs power too. It’s an extremely interesting matchup and will be shown on Azteca television. It should be explosive while it lasts. Look for more on this story later this week.

England

Former Olympian Nicola Adams meets Mexico’s Isabel Millan in a flyweight clash on Saturday Oct. 6, for the interim WBO flyweight title in Leicester, England. Adams, 35, has speed and power and will be facing a veteran in Millan who is battle tough. She won’t quit. It’s a good test for Adams who has been facing subpar competition so far.

Millan, 33, has been in many wars against world champions. Does she still have something left?
