Arely Mucino Beats Legal Wrangle – This past April with some pomp and circumstance Zanfer Promotions, of Tijuana, Mexico, arguably the biggest promoter in Latin America announced the signing of former female world champion Arely “Ametralladora” Muciño of Monterrey, Mexico.

During their announcement Zanfer mentioned she would be featured soon on a televised bout on the Mexican channel Azteca with Zanfer, that holds an exclusive agreement to provide content.

The 27-year-old Muciño went pro in early 2008 and quickly amassed 10 wins with a draw and five knockouts before heading to Germany to challenge the then WBA and WBO flyweight champion Susi Kentikian in the summer of 2010.  The title challenge was ruled a no-contest when an accidental head butt caused a cut to the scalp of Kentikian forcing the bout to be stopped.

Muciño captured the IBF 112-pound title in her next fight by stopping American Chantal Cordova in the fourth round and went ahead to defend it three times against the likes of Carolina Alvarez, Soledad Macedo and Susana Vazquez before facing Ava Knight.  Knight promptly knocked her out in the second round in late 2011.

Muciño came back with a controversial split decision win over Melissa McMorrow in her next fight only to lose her own split decision against Mariana “Barbie” Juarez in May of 2012 for the WBC flyweight title.  She then went on a tear with wins over Ana Fernandez, Suri Tapia twice, Olga Julio, a draw with Jessica Chavez for the WBC Silver light flyweight title, more wins against Tenkai Tsunami and a unanimous decision win over the Japanese Shindo Go for the WBC flyweight title.

She lost it in her first defense in September of last year via a unanimous decision to Jessica “Kika” Chavez.

For most of her career Muciño was promoted by HG Boxing led by Hector Garcia but when that company folded for lack of TV dates, Promociones Del Pueblo of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, signed her to an exclusive contract.  In 2014, under the Promociones Del Pueblo banner, Muciño faced Tsunami, Tapia and got the opportunity to challenge Shindo Go for the WBC strap in her hometown of Monterrey and on Televisa, the biggest terrestrial network in Mexico.

As soon as it was announced Zanfer Promotions had signed Muciño, Promociones Del Pueblo released their own statement outlining they actually had an exclusive contract with the female fighter until May of 2017.  Promociones Del Pueblo also explained in that statement once Muciño captured the title certain persons near Muciño got in her ear and perhaps gave her ill advice.  It seems the problem stems from Promociones Del Pueblo not wanting her father and trainer Juan Jose Muciño in her corner.

At the time of Promociones Del Pueblo’s statement, Zanfer decided to step back and not interfere between any legal maneuvers between the fighter and her promoter.  Muciño decided to take matters into her own hands and this week proved there is no valid contract between her and Promociones Del Pueblo.

According to Muciño’s lawyer, Laura Gabriela Mier, and a notary public, it was determined the contact with Promociones del Pueblo ended in March of 2015 and any other fights promoted by the company for Muciño were in a fight by fight basis.  There was only one, her loss of the WBC flyweight title to current champion Jessica Chavez in September.

Since the decision, Promociones Del Pueblo have not released any statements counterattacking the fact that now Muciño claims to now be working with Zanfer Promotions.  It is expected for the former two-time champion to continue to campaign at the 112 pounds limit and looks to come back in late July with Zanfer Promotions and on the Azteca channel.
