Kenia Enriquez vs Yokasta Valle Title Fight in Mexico is Canceled

By David A. Avila

A quickly scheduled clash between Mexico’s vibrant young star Kenia Enriquez and Costa Rica’s equally talented Yokasta Valle this weekend has been postponed said Zanfer Promotions on Thursday.

The Mexico-based promotion company did not give a reason but added a later date, presumably May 12, will be when the two budding super stars will eventually meet. Azteca television will televise.

Enriquez (20-1, 9 KOs) was defending the interim WBC light flyweight title against Valle (13-1, 6 KOs) in Tecate, Mexico on Saturday. But, now fans will have to wait for this clash between almost similar types of fighters. It had been quickly arranged by Zanfer just a few weeks ago.

Costa Rica’s Valle recently traveled to Japan this past December where she met the five-division world champion Naoko Fujioka in a 10 round fight for the WBO light flyweight title. It was an epic battle that saw Valle lose by close decision in Tokyo. Instead of looking for an easy opponent, the 25-year-old opted to face a fighter that other champions in Mexico are afraid to face.

“I want to fight the best,” said Valle.

Enriquez, 24, also has only one loss on her resume and that was in the heavier 112-pound flyweight division. She is now fighting in a more comfortable weight at 108 pounds and has been unbeatable at this weight. Her last fight was a unanimous decision win over Jessica Nery Plata.

“I want to show the quality of fighters we have in Mexico,” said Enriquez who fights out of Tijuana, Mexico. “I respect Yokasta and expect a high caliber fight.”

The clash between the two eager light flyweights will have to wait a few more weeks.
