Christy Martin’s Promotional Debut and Female Fight News

Christy Martin’s Promotional Debut Features Female Title Fight and other news

Many consider Christy “The Coalminer’s Daughter” Martin one of the greatest female fighters of all time. Now she’s tackling promoting.

“I truly feel it was easier being the fighter,” said Martin. “But I am excited to start this new phase of my boxing career.”

Martin makes her promotional debut with an impressive fight card that includes an NABF bantamweight title fight between undefeated Rosalinda Rodriguez (4-0) versus Noemi Bosques (11-7-2). The 10-round battle takes place on Wednesday Oct. 19 at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A very strong supporting fight card supports the female main event. On the under card will be light heavyweights Quinton Rankin (11-3-1) and Michael Wilmer (5-8-1) in an eight round contest. Also, cruiserweights Berry Butler (25-13-1) and Larry Pryor (9-14) tangle in a six round match up.

Several other bouts are planned.

Martin’s Pink Promotions and Mercedes Vazquez’s Pretty Girl Promotions are the co-promoters of the event. The former world champion Martin is also the matchmaker of the boxing card.

During her 23-year pro career Martin was considered one of the most exciting female prizefighters on the planet. She often fought on televised fight cards that also featured Mike Tyson and Felix Trinidad.  Among those she fought were Andrea DeShong, Laura Serrano, Isra Girgrah, Kathy Collins, Mia St. John and Laila Ali.

Martin was also the first female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated and she became the first woman inducted to the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame this year.

Now she’s entered the promotional phase of her career and of course she is including a female bout on her premiere boxing card.

The main event pits undefeated Rosalinda Rodriguez a 30-year-old bantamweight who fights out of Miami, Florida against another Floridian Noemi Bosques out of Saint Petersburg. Though Rodriguez is undefeated she’s facing a ring veteran of numerous wars against top females such as Heather Hardy, Kenia Enriquez and Alesia Graf. All of those are elite fighters. It should be a very interesting match-up.
