All Female Fight Card Canceled in NorCal
An injury to female prizefighter Sara Flores forced an all-female fight card to be postponed.
The Beauty Meets Boxing fight card for Saturday Dec. 3, at Pacifica Cages in Pacifica, Calif. was canceled due to a lack of total rounds scheduled on the Babyface Boxing Promotions fight card.
“I got a message in the morning,” said Blanca Gutierrez the promoter of record. The message was from Flores stating that she had slipped and fallen while at a gym restroom and was unconscious for nearly 20 minutes.
A doctor ruled Flores had received a concussion and would not be cleared to fight on Saturday. Because of rules by the California State Athletic Commission stating a minimum number of 26 rounds are required to stage a fight card, the entire card was canceled.
Because of a scarcity of female fighters, it’s not easy to simply make a phone call to obtain a replacement. It takes time and planning and if unforeseen circumstances take place, that’s enough to scuttle a bout. Female fight cards are the most difficult to make.
“I’m really bummed,” said Gutierrez who was promoting her first professional fight card and numerous successful amateur cards. “But I never give up.”
