The Return of Amaris “Diamond Girl” Quintana

San Diego’s Amaris “Diamond Girl” Quintana loves the sport of boxing and after two years of being away she’s back.

“Yes I am ready,” said Quintana. “I’ve been waiting for this for a while.”

Quintana (9-3-2) will be fighting Dulce Galaviz (2-4-1) at Casino Caliente in Tijuana, Mexico on Saturday March 24. The six-round flyweight fight will not be televised in the U.S. but marks another return to Mexico for the petite boxer.

For the last several years Quintana ranked among the top light flyweights or minimum weight prizefighters in the world. She’s been knocking on the door of a world title fight for many years and is ever so close to opening it.

The last time Quintana stepped foot in a ring was at the massive Forum in Inglewood where she lost to Tijuana’s hometown fighter Kenia Enriquez in a light flyweight battle in April 2016. Ever since that loss things have not seemed to work out for the gutsy fighter with a big heart.

“I’ve been out for almost two years because of medical issues,” said Quintana, 28, a striking brunette who is comfortable in the U.S. or Mexico. “And I’m ready with new management.”

From the beginning of her pro career the bilingual prizefighter has always been willing to face the best in the business. She has a “no fear attitude” that shows in the boxing ring. When the bell rings it doesn’t matter who is in the other corner Quintana will not quit.

In her nine year pro career she’s battled against three world champions in various weight classes from minimum weight against Melissa McMorrow, light flyweight against Sindy Amador and Kenia Enriquez and as high as bantamweight.

Quintana is fearless. She just wants to fight.

“My goal is to get back to the top and go for a world title,” said Quintana who had a strong amateur career. “I want to prove to everybody that I’m not done and I’m ready to show the world what I’m made of.”

Tomorrow in Tijuana the Diamond Girl returns.
