Seniesa Estrada vs Tina Rupprecht, Yokasta Valle in Action Too

Little Giant Killers Seniesa Estrada and Yokasta Valle in Separate Action

By David A. Avila

The vision of a petite Seniesa Estrada taking a little hop and skip into action and delivering a seven-punch, seven-second knockout seen around the world on social media, pretty much describes the female prizefighters under 118 pounds.

They are explosive.

“Super Bad” Estrada knocked out Miriam Adkins almost three years ago. Since then, the East Los Angeles fighter has decimated three weight divisions before deciding to concentrate on just the 105-pound minimumweight division.

Estrada (23-0, 9 Kos) seeks to unify the WBA and WBC minimumweight world titles when she meets Germany’s Tina Rupprecht (12-0-1, 3 Kos) at the Save Mart Arena in Fresno, California this Saturday March 25. ESPN will televise the Top Rank card live.

Thousands of miles south another battle of minimumweights takes place in Central America.

Costa Rica’s Yokasta Valle has recently proved her boxing abilities to a skeptical American audience that she too can fight. Recently she matched blows with Argentina’s Evelin Bermudez and emerged the winner by majority decision in a light flyweight title fight.

Valle also decided to drop down from 108 pounds to 105 to unify the minimumweight division. She’s super athletic and since training with Los Angeles-based Gloria Alvarado, the multi-division champion has picked up a few pro tricks that separate her from the rest.

Valle (27-2, 9 Kos) defends the IBF minimumweight title against Mexico’s Jessica Basulto (11-0, 3 Kos) this Saturday March 25, at Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The MarvNation and Golden Boy Promotions card will be streamed on @blkprimeboxing.

Ever since entering the pro boxing world the Costa Rican fighter eagerly challenged fighters in their own lands and lost. First against Naoko Fujioka in Japan, then Tina Rupprecht in Germany and suffered back-to-back losses. Valles next attempt overseas finally resulted in victory when she defeated Spain’s Joana Pastrana in Marbella and picked up the IBF minimumweight title.

Though she recently won world titles at 108 pounds in the light flyweight level, her main goal has been to match skills against Seniesa Estrada. It’s the primary reason she moved from Costa Rica and trains in Los Angeles.

“We will give the best female fight ever,” predicts Valle, who trains in the same gym as Ramla Ali, Lupita Medina and amateur star Perla Bazaldua.

Yokasta Valle and Seniesa Estrada have the same plans and the same designs. Both are headed for a showdown that seems likely to happen at the end of this year.

But first, the undefeated Estrada knows Germany’s Rupprecht has never been defeated and wants to be the first to accomplish the feat.

Valle faces Mexico’s undefeated Basulto and expects a serious challenge from the young slugger from Merida.

But in the back of the minds of both Valle and Estrada are the same image of becoming undisputed minimumweight world champion.

“I want to be undisputed champion in three weight classes,” Estrada said a year ago. So far, she is on course but so is Valle.
