CM3 presents sensational Egyptian female fighter Mai Soliman (10-2, 5 Kos) versus Maria Micheo (14-7) at Commerce Casino in Commerce, Ca. on Saturday Sept. 26. UFC Fight Pass will stream the event worldwide.
This is Australian-based Soliman’s first fight since a riveting battle with Japan’s Mizuki Hiruta last May in Egypt for the WBO super flyweight title that captivated boxing fans worldwide with its ferocity and cinematic aura.
“For me to go back to Egypt was unreal,” said Soliman. “It was amazing. I always wanted to fight in front of the pyramids.”
Soliman, 28, who now lives in Sydney, Australia, engaged in one of the more stylistic battles against Hiruta. Known for her strong punching both women had their game plan with Soliman using her fists like heat-seeking missiles and Hiruta slipping and countering.
Each woman had their moment but after 10 intense rounds of action the judges sided with Hiruta by decision. Still, boxing fans worldwide enjoyed the battle between the two women from opposite parts of the world.
“Styles make fights,” said Soliman who has been boxing for more than 10 years. “It was the perfect mix.”
Despite the loss Soliman is ranked third among the WBC super flyweight standings. Ironically, the current champion is Adelaida Ruiz who lives a mere five miles from this Saturday’s event in Commerce. And WBO champion Hiruta trains with Manny Robles in the same vicinity.
Maybe this is serendipity at work.
Soliman currently has been training in San Diego at Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s camp. She has had an abundance of sparring partners eager to trade blows with the Egyptian fighter. She laughs at their eagerness to spar but feels anxious to return to action in the boxing ring.
Working alongside Alvarez and Jaime Munguia with her own team has lit flames of inspiration to the Egyptian fighter. “It makes me want to raise the bar higher,” she said.
This Saturday she takes an important step back toward her goal of winning a world title. And then, possibly a rematch with Japan’s Hiruta. This is Soliman’s first time fighting on American shores.
“I’m looking to get that win,” Soliman said.
The boxing card is filled with both contenders and prospects eager to perform on a worldwide platform. Among those included are Michael Bracamontes, Eric Mondragon, Justin Viloria, Willie Shaw, Deni Davtian, Jose Edgardo Perdomo, Carson Crawford, Katrina Scalzo, Jesus Diego, Rondarius Hunter and several others.
