Amanda Serrano Leads MVP Stars on Powerful El Paso, Texas Fight Card

Female Fighters from Most Valuable Promotions Army Hit El Paso on Saturday

By David A. Avila

El Paso will be the site of the most contentious battlefield since Pancho Villa and his Dorados battled Mexican federales in 1919 across the Rio Grande River in Ciudad Juarez.

Most Valuable Promotions led by Puerto Rico’s Amanda Serrano (48-4-1, 31 Kos) fighting Germany’s Cheyenne Hanson (17-2, 13 Kos) will bring a vast array of many top female fighters on Saturday May 30, at El Paso County Coliseum. ESPN will televise and stream the Most Valuable Promotions card.

The Serrano-Hanson WBO and WBA featherweight title fight will be set for 10 three-minute rounds.

Serrano has established a reputation as one of the greatest female fighters in history and with the next knockout win will tie Christy Martin for the most knockouts by a female boxer.

Hanson is a knockout puncher too.

“I’m working on being a more complete fighter,” said Hanson on social media, who has a 73 % high knockout rate. “I’m ready for anything.”

Serrano has hinted that she may have one or two fights remaining before retiring as an active fighter. The legendary pugilist has helped the sport grow and is co-headlining the boxing card that also includes El Paso’s own Stephanie Han (12-0, 3 Kos) in a rematch with Holly Holm (34-3-3) for the WBA lightweight title. They too will be fighting at 10 three-minute rounds instead of two-minute rounds.

“I truly hope to make El Paso proud by winning on Saturday night,” Han said on social media. “This is history for El Paso I don’t think four world title fights have ever happened in El Paso on the same card before.”

In another world title match, Mexico’s Lourdes “Lulu” Juarez (39-4, 5 Kos) defends the WBC light fly title against Costa Rica’s Yokasta Valle (34-3, 10 Kos) in 10 two-minute rounds. Both are speedy fighters with Valle a volume puncher and Juarez an agile boxer who uses strategy to keep foes off-balance. It’s a very interesting match.

A middleweight world title fight features Australia’s Desley Robinson (11-3, 4 Kos) against Canada’s Mary Spencer (10-3, 6 Kos) for the IBF and WBO titles. Robinson was last seen winning by second round knockout over Logan Holler. Spencer lost to pound for pound fighter Mikaela Mayer in a super welterweight title fight. Now she has moved up in weight and perhaps the added pounds can prove beneficial. Expect a slugfest from these two fighters.

In another light flyweight battle Mexico’s former light flyweight world titlist Yesica Nery Plata (30-3) seeks another title opportunity but must first get past Southern California’s Brook Sibrian (9-2) in an eight-round affair. Both are not shy to trade blows.

Featherweight Reina Tellez (13-1-1) is coming off a loss to Serrano but proved she can compete with anyone. She faces Juliana Basualdo (14-7) in an eight-round fight.

Another featherweight prospect Elise Soto (10-0, 9 Kos) of Puerto Rico is racing up the contender list and meets Thalia Limon (4-1, 3 KOs) of Texas. Both prefer winning by knockout over decisions.

Light fly Jocelyn Camarillo (6-0, 1 KO) meets Yazmin Martinez (3-3-2) in a six-round bout and is coming off a scary knockout win against Isis Sio in San Bernardino this past March. Martinez scored a draw against the talented Perla Bazaldua last October.

Several other bouts are planned on the exciting MVP event.

Mizuki Hiruta

Japan’s Mizuki Hiruta is currently in negotiations with several promotion companies. The WBO super flyweight and Ring Magazine female fighter of the year defeated Australia’s talented Mai Soliman by decision after 10 hard-fought rounds in Giza, Egypt this past Saturday.

The perky Japanese fighter was a big hit with the DAZN commentators, analysts and the crowd at the Giza Pyramids. Her infectious personality and eagerness to speak English and Spanish impressed many observers.

Hiruta (11-0) had been previously signed by 360 Boxing Promotions, but that company no longer exists and has merged into Zuffa Boxing. The quick-fisted Hiruta has seven consecutive world title defenses and trains with Manny Robles in Los Angeles. Robles also manages the energetic fighter who loves tacos and Mexican food. Also assisting is George Ruiz who also works with multi-division world champion Mikaela Mayer.

“Mizuki is very impressive in many ways,” said Ruiz, adding that several promotion companies are interested.

Which promotion company will successfully sign her to a contract?
